Poems about friend - .5. Pen Friend

.5. Pen Friend - Poem by David Threadgold

My favourite golden fountain pen
Sat proudly in my pocket
Displayed for all the world to see
Like ladies would a locket

It hung there at the ready
For moment’s it must sign
The mundane things like letters
Or the cheques to pay for wine

At work it signed a stock take
And checks done on the till
It’s even been on legal trips
Signed a name upon my will

My golden pen has followed me
Through all my years and learning’s
Worked well through many years of toil
And signed for all my earnings

Now pen and I have both retired
Less pressure and less tension
The only thing my pen signs now
Is my name to get my pension?
